Christian Council appoints new general secretary

The Christian Council of Ghana has appointed the Reverend Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong as the new General Secretary.

He replaces Rev Dr. Fred Deegbe, who has completed his ten years of service to the Council.

A statement signed by Rt Rev Francis Amenu, Chairman of the Council, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said Dr. Opuni-Frimpong before his appointment was the Asante Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG).

It said Dr. Opuni-Frimpong had served in various capacities as a minister of God after he was commissioned at the Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in 1991.

The statement said Dr Opuni-Frimpong has pastored at Christ Presbyterian Church at Akropong Akuapem, Trinity Presbyterian Church at Kwashieman- Accra, Christ Congregation, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science And Technology (KNUST) Kumasi, and Patasi Presbyterian Church, also in Kumasi.

He had served as General Youth Secretary for PCG National Worship Committee, PCG Project Manager, PCG HIV/AIDS Project Manager, member of National Christian Education Committee, National Secretary of National Ministers Conference of PCG, Board Member of Trinity Insurance Brokerage Limited and Board Member of PCG Agents Welfare Scheme.

The statement said Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong was appointed full time lecturer at the Department of Religious Studies of the KNUST in 2005.

At KNUST, he served as Board Member, Faculty of Social Sciences; Board Member, College of Arts and Social Sciences; Board Member, Academic Board KNUST and Head of the Department of Religious Studies.

Dr. Opuni-Frimpong has worked as Graduate Assistant at the University of Natal, South Africa, as a lecturer at the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, and the Pentecost University College, Accra.

He is also the Moderator of the Department of Biblical Studies, All Nations’ University College of Koforidua and the Heritage Christian University College-Accra and Visiting Academic at the Stellenbosch University, South Africa.

Dr. Opuni-Frimpong attended Collins Secondary Commercial School at Agogo and Konongo Odumasi Secondary for his GCE 'A' Level Certificate.

He was enrolled at the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon and obtained a Diploma in Theology and continued to the University of Ghana- Legon, where he obtained BA in Political Science and Study of Religions.

Dr. Opuni-Frimpong studied at the Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Richmond USA and University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg South Africa, and Akrofi Christaller Institute for Masters in Theology and Doctor of Philosophy respectively.
