Nii Kojo Nseni Mankatah IV, the Asafoatse of the Ga State, has called on the Christian Council of Ghana to ensure that churches in Accra abided by the ban on drumming and noise-making.

He said the Council must advice, especially the one-man churches, to respect the custom of the Gas as the practice was not fetish as perceived by some Christians.

Nii Mankatah made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency and said most churches in the Ga State were disrespecting the ban because they considered the celebration of the Homowo as fetish.

He said: “Such claims are false because Homowo is an occasion used by the Gas to remember their ancestors, hoot at hunger and thank the Almighty God for providing sufficient food.”

Nii Mankatah urged individuals and churches who occupy the lands of the Ga State to be mindful of their actions during the ban and remember that the Ga traditional rulers are the custodians of the land.

He advised the Asafo companies not to take the law into their hands when someone disobeyed the ban but must report to the appropriate quarters for an amicable resolution in order to make this year’s Homowo Festival peaceful.
