Christian Yohuno and wife attend thanksgiving service after appointment

The Inspector General of Police (IGP),COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno was confirmed as the new Inspector General of Police, following the removal of Dr George Akuffo Dampare from his position on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

George Akuffo Dampare was appointed the IGP in 2021, by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Following his new role and in a celebration, the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and his wife attended a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 16, 2025.

The church erupted in cheers and applause as IGP Yohuno and his wife made their grand entrance with a large convoy of luxurious vehicles, accompanied by a music band. The warm welcome they received depicted how highly-esteemed the new IGP is held.

IGP Yohuno was later spotted on the pulpit, thanking God and celebrating his new appointment as the head of the Ghana Police Service.

During the service, IGP Yohuno took the opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and others who supported his appointment.


“At this glorious moment today, I express my profound gratitude in the honor bestowed on me by His-Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana and Commander in Chief of the Ghana Arm Forces, Mr. John Dramani Mahama. For appointing me to this prestigious position as the Inspector General of Police of our dear country.” He said.

“I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to my family, colleagues, and loved ones for supporting me throughout my journey. Your guidance and trust have been instrumental in shaping me into the leader I am today. And I will continue to depend on your expectees as we work collectively to reset and consolidate the norms and traditions of our institution.

At this juncture I wish to acknowledge the remarkable achievements of my predecessors whose dedication and excellence have paid the way for our present endeavors.

To the courageous police men and women, who believe in my ability to lead, I commit to remaining diligent and transparent in all pursuit to collectively build the service we aspire for our beloved nation.” He further added.

His words of appreciation were met with nods of approval and smiles from the congregation.

With his wife by his side, IGP Yohuno appeared humble and grateful for the opportunity to serve the nation.


Before assuming his current role, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno served as the Accra Central Divisional Commander from 2007 to 2009.

He also held positions as the Accra Regional Operations Commander and later became the Deputy Accra Regional Commander, eventually being promoted to Regional Commander in 2013.
