Church Builds 65 Million Cedi Youth Training Centre

Sunyani, (Brong Ahafo Region) 13 Sept.,

Work has begun on a 65 million-cedi youth training centre for the youth ministries division of the Sunyani District Methodist Church. The project which is expected to be completed within two years, comprises a hostel and offices to promote youth activities, workshop for training of members in various vocations and a permanent accommodation for the youth coordinator. The Reverend Felix Doni-Kwame, General Superintendent of the Methodist Church and Mr. Kwame Agyenim-Boateng, Presiding Member of the Sunyani District Assembly, jointly cut the sod for the commencement of work at Sunyani over the weekend. Mr. Agyenim-Boateng commended the youth for the bold initiative and stressed the need for the involvement of every sector of the society in the national development efforts. He told the youth that, as young Christians, they should let their experience reflect in whatever they do to foster peace and unity to ensure prosperity of both the church and the state. Mr. Agyenim-Boateng pledged to donate 50 bags of cement as the assembly's initial contribution towards the project. Rev. Doni-Kwame reminded the youth that the future of the church depends on them, they should therefore lead exemplary lives and initiate programmes to benefit both the church and the community. The Reverend Isaac Nana Abekah, district youth coordinator of the church said the absence of a centre has hindered the realisation of the church's objective of adequate training for the youth and called for assistance from the government. The regional youth coordinator, Paapa Adjei-Kyeremeh who presided, pledged his commitment to support programmes aimed at enhancing the lives of the people, especially the youth.
