Accra, March 27, GNA - Students of the Church of Christ in tertiary institution on Saturday, organised a symposium at the University of Ghana, Legon, as part of activities of the 7th Senior Secondary School Symposium and 2nd Congress of the Church of Christ Students Union (COCSU).
Members of the Church from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Kumasi, the University of Cape Coast, the University of Education, Winneba, the University of Ghana Legon and some Senior Secondary School (SSS) students from the Southern sector of the country attended.
In an address Brother George Kingsley Abugah of the Legon branch of COCSU said, the symposium was to direct students of the Church to enable them to choose appropriate subjects at the SSS Level to help them gain admission into tertiary institutions.
A Senior Lecturer of the University of Ghana Business School, Dr. Samuel Buame called on the youth to engage in entrepreneurship since it would benefit them and reduce their dependency on their parents. He spoke on how to become an entrepreneur and appealed to the youth to cultivate the habit of saving to increase their income for future use.
Dr Buame expressed regret that some businessmen did not use the profit from their business to expand their ventures but spent them lavishly on unprofitable things.
He stated that although entrepreneurship entailed risk, it could be overcome with proper planning and hard work.
Mr. Samuel Osei Young, an Evangelist speaking on the "Impact of Modernity on Christian Youth," said although the Internet had brought speed in business transactions it had also come with some problems. He called on the youth to refrain from defrauding individuals and companies using the Internet.
Mr Young said instead of students looking for the correct websites for acquiring knowledge, they tend to spend several hours watching pornographic material.
He reminded female students in the tertiary institutions not to copy foreign cultures blindly, stop exposing their bodies and to dress decently.
Evangelist Young told the youth to depend mostly on God who would not disappoint them when they call on him in prayers.
