Church of Jesus Christ of Later Saints rehabilitates 52 boreholes in Kwahu West District

Kwamang (E/R), March 23, GNA - The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints has rehabilitated 52 boreholes and hand-dug pumps in 27 communities in the Kwahu West District to provide them with potable water. The boreholes and hand-dugs pumps which developed faults several years ago, were constructed by some NGOs mostly in the rural areas to check water-borne diseases but theY developed faults after some years use.

In an address read on his behalf at the dedication of one of the boreholes at Kwamang, near Nkawkaw, the Country Director of the Church, Elder William Strong, said it was the social responsibility of the church to provide the needs of the people in the communities to win more souls for Christ. He said the project, worth several millions of cedis, was financed from the charity fund of the church to improve the living standard of the people for them to absorb the teachings of the church. Elder Strong urged the Water and Sanitation Committee (WASAN) in the various communities to use the proceeds from the water sale to undertake their regular maintenance to ensure regular supply of water to the people.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Nana Kofi Kese, commended the church for not only thinking of the spiritual needs of the people but undertook the rehabilitation of the boreholes and pumps to improve the social needs of the people. He said though it was the responsibility of the assembly to undertake the rehabilitation exercise, its resources could not do that and therefore thanked the Church for the gesture. The District Chief Executive urged the WASAN committee members to render proper accounts of the income to the people for them to have confidence in their operations and pay their contributions towards the maintenance of the boreholes.
