Churches urged to prevent ethnicity, gender discrimination

Akim Oda, Sept. 4, GNA - The chairperson of the West Akim Presbytery, Mrs Alice Kyei-Anti, on Friday called on Churches to make concerted efforts to help prevent ethnicity and gender discrimination in the nation.

She noted that if the situation remained unchecked, it could affect the development of the country adding," we cannot build a sound nation on this fragmented pillars."

Mrs Kyei-Anti who was speaking at the 46th annual National Delegates Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Choirs Union at Akim Oda, expressed regret that ethnicity and gender discrimination were taking place in the Churches.

The five-day conference, which is under the theme: "That all may have life in fullness", is being attended by about 900 delegates from all over country.

Mrs Kyei-Anti urged the choristers to live exemplary lives and join the crusade against drug abuse, prostitution and hooliganism. The Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Francis Osafo-Mensah, in a speech read for him called on Ghanaians to tolerate each others political views towards the growth of the country's infant democracy. He urged the Union to intensify its educational campaign on good parenting and to help teach children about the virtues of Christ so that they may have life in fullness.

The National President of the Union, Mr Moses Kofi Sogah, expressed regret that the Ghanaian music scene was characterised by profane lyrics and asked the Musician Union of Ghana to encourage its members to compose inspiring songs on HIV/AIDS, indiscipline, teenage pregnancy, corruption among others.
