The Public Interest and Research Network (PIRAN-Ghana) has lauded CITI FM’s latest initiative dubbed War Against Indiscipline (WAI) that seeks to ensure sanity and order on our roads in our national capital.

The campaign also prescribes offenders are prosecuted irrespective of one’s gender, profession, social, religious or traditional/political status.

The Kumasi-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) noted that the crusade had demonstrated laws can be made to work without fear or favour, especially when the initiative is in tandem with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Goal 16, which calls for peace, justice and stronger institutions.

“The fact that citizens allowed themselves to be questioned investigated and prosecuted for offences they freely and openly accept blame and punishment through lawful means and procedure is commendable,” a statement signed by Felix Djan Foh and Leonard Arhinful, President and Central Region Coordinator/Focal Person of PIRAN respectively, indicated.

The NGO noted that the Ghanaian citizen can now be civil and law-abiding, and commended the courage of the management and staff of Citi FM, and recommended that the exercise, described as a feat worthy of emulation, is spread to roads in the other regional capitals to ensure discipline.

It said the money raised within this period in other regional capitals could add to our national coffers, while, at the same time, helping to ensure sustainable discipline on our roads.

PIRAN suggested that a percentage of the proceeds from the fines be given to the station to help them buy logistics needed for their job, and also motivate the individuals behind this innovation.

The NGO further suggested that other non-effective law enforcement institutions can, as well, emulate this strategy in their respective areas of duty, to ensure a law-abiding national society.
