The Civil Servants Association of Ghana is demanding increased salaries from the government.
The Executive Secretary of the Civil Servants Association Smart Chigabatia made the demand at a press conference in Accra.
He accused government of discriminating against civil servants by paying them low salaries compared to their counterparts from other sectors.
Mr. Chigabatia said several petitions presented to government to correct the distortions in their salary levels have received no response.
He said he wanted government to explain its silence.
Civil Servants Accuse Government Of Being Bias
Members of the Civil Service have begun beating the war drums as they demand a number of incentives from government, the most important being an upgrade of their salary structures to match those of their contemporaries in the public service.
At a Press Conference held yesterday, May 27, 2005 to throw more light on their grievances, the Executive Secretary of the Civil Servants Association, Mr Smart Chigarbatia, accused government of bias against civil servants.
Mr Chigarbatia said even though members of the Association do not deem it fit to embark on demonstrations to press their demand for an upward review of their salaries, they believe that it is time government comes out to explain the reasons for its decision to ignore the many petitions they have written on the issue.
