Civil servants should be non-partisan - Glover-Quartey

Accra, Jan. 3, GNA - Dr Alex Glover-Quartey, Head of Civil Service, on Friday urged civil servants to be non-partisan, especially during this election year.

He urged them exhibit selflessness and render loyal service to the nation.

"All civil servants are to remain politically impartial, they should provide loyal and unalloyed service to the nation. They should not be involved in politics," he said.

Dr Glover-Quartey was speaking at a New Year get-together and dinner party organised by the Office of the Head of Civil Service for Chief Directors, Assistant Chief Directors and Directors of the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as Members of the Civil Service Council, in Accra.

It also provided an informal platform to share ideas, vision and the way forward for the Service.

Dr Glover-Quartey said 2004 should be a year for them to be highly concerned with increased productivity through efficiency, punctuality and effective supervision.

He said they should also be concerned with cost saving, particularly in the areas of finance and procurement. The Head of the Service, however, reminded them that the final decision rested with their political heads, the Ministers. Dr Glover-Quartey commended them for their performance in the past year and urged them to give off their best this year.
