Accra, July 23, GNA - A community-based environmental campaign that inspires individuals and communities to make their environment a safer place to live would take place in Ghana from September 19 to 21. The "Clean Up the World Weekend 2008" campaign, a non-governmental organization, is seeking to mobilize an estimated 35 million volunteers from more than 110 countries to work towards the positive improvement of local environment.
A statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Mr Abu Karim, Media Co-coordinator of "Clean Up the World Weekend 2008" campaign, said it was the practical and immediate way for communities to reduce the causes of climate change.
The statement said climate change had caused water shortages, frequent drought and intense storms and floods. The campaign would bring together business, community groups, schools, governments and individuals, who would inspire other people to clean, fix and conserve the environment. "With the help of the United Nations Environmental programmes around the world, members of Clean Up the World Campaign would receive a range of support materials to help drive local project."
