Clearing Agent in police grips for assaulting fiancee

Tema, Nov. 5, GNA - A 30-year-old woman has been rushed to hospital in Tema in a critical condition after she was allegedly assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, the Tema police said on Wednesday.

The ex-boyfriend, Lord Essuman, a Clearing Agent based in Tema, has been placed in custody at the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Ghana Police Service.

Chief Inspector Nketia-Yeboah of the Tema Regional Police Public Relations directorate, told the Ghana News Agency that on Wednesday, November 3, the victim, Madam Rachel Quarshie, a communication centre operator, closed from work and hired a taxi home.

Soon on arrival at home, Essuman who had been waiting, allegedly pounced on her, dragged her from the taxi into a gutter and assaulted her mercilessly until she became weak, Inspector Nketia-Yuba said, adding that the woman's plight attracted the sympathy of her neighbours who rushed her to the hospital.

Essuman, who has a wedded wife, has two children with Rachel and another three with his wife.
