Clerk remanded in prison custody for assaulting ex-girlfriend

Cape Coast, April 19, GNA - Francis Nkrumah, a clerk at the University of Cape Coast, was on Tuesday remanded by a circuit court at Cape Coast for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, one Ms Ellen Ansah. Nkrumah 29 pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Monday, April 25. Prosecuting, Chief inspector Hope Azasoo told the court that Nkrumah and Ellen were lovers for a number of years but they broke up. On April 4, Ellen was selling fried yam by the roadside when a friend of Nkrumah teased her that she had grown lean since she broke up with his friend.

Ellen replied that it was not true and that she used to feed Nkrumah. Nkrumah's mother, who also lives in the vicinity, heard what Ellen had said and picked up a quarrel with her and in the process Nkrumah appeared at the scene and slapped Ellen. The matter was reported to the police and Nkrumah was arrested.
