The Board Chairman of Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod), Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, has called for a total redevelopment of the Cocoa Clinic headquarters in Accra.

This call came after he and members of the Cocobod paid a courtesy call on the management and staff of the Cocoa Clinic in Accra, Wednesday morning.

Briefing the media after a quick tour of the health center, the former New Juabeng North MP said their visit was to have a ‘first-hand’ information on things happening at the clinic, understand their challenges and how the clinic can develop a quality healthcare to the people.

He added that the cocoa clinic needs to be modernized to enable the clinic give their client quality health service.

He said, “the board has taken notice of their challenges and they will do everything in their power to solve it”.

“The hospital serves a lot of communities within the catchment area, therefore the board will try and lift the image of the clinic to become a center of excellence in terms of providing quality healthcare to the people” he noted.

“Eventually, what we have to do is completely redesign the clinic, make it modern and bring in private enterprise to make things work,” he stressed.

On his part, the Director of Health at Cocoa Clinic, Dr Jerry Owusu Ansah said the major problem of the clinic is congestion.

Due to this he said, the clinic is unable to introduce other services to help serve the public better.

“Some patients normally complain that the processes at the hospital take a lot of their time; something which frustrates them".

Dr Owusu Ansah added that their appeal to the management to help expand the hospital's facilities has been approved.

“The expansion of the facility will improve the quality of service drastically” he stressed.

Dr Owusu Ansah further stated that some of the challenges of the cocoa clinic include lack of transportation, medical software defects, delays in the procurement process for drugs, tools of trade as well as limited staff.
