Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has hinted that the Akufo-Addo led government is set to release an amount of GHC3 billion to fix all deplorable roads leading to cocoa farms nationwide.

Making assurances on this new project, the minister said, “Funding is now also being made available for the commencement of particularly the cocoa roads… It is expected that over three billion cedis worth of cocoa roads are set to commence under the new programme in the cocoa growing areas across the country”.

Explaining why road works were stopped over the years, he said “There was a suspension of cocoa road projects for an audit to take place and to allow for re-scoping and proper alignment of funds to execute these projects”.

Some road contracts, the Minister noted have been terminated whilst others have been handed over to responsible agencies such as the Ghana Highways Authority and the Department of Urban roads.

He added that, the aforementioned agencies have been fully funded and equipped to execute these road projects.

After the demarcation of job, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah assured contractors of receiving their monies right after work.

Meanwhile, LEKMA roads have been given out to contractors to begin works on the deplorable site.

The minister made these known during a press conference at the Information Ministry on Sunday, July 21, 2019.
