A Deputy Director of Communications for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Sammy Awuku, has challenged President John Dramani Mahama to come clean on the myriads of allegations of corruption hanging around his neck.
Speaking at a mini rally held at the Ablekuma North constituency in the Grater Accra Region, the NPP firebrand challenged the President to put to rest suggestions that his conduct in the acquisition of 5 aircrafts including an Embraer 190 and hangar for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) was so suspicious that the late President constituted a Presidential committee to investigate the current President.
“I find as rather interesting that while President Mahama is always quick to respond to policy prescriptions of Nana Akufo-Addo on any platform he mounts, President Mahama has decided to keep mute on allegations leveled against him by Mr. Martin Amidu.
“President Mahama hops from one platform to another stating how unrealistic Nana Addo’s free SHS and affordable housing schemes are, yet isn’t it strange that he blatantly refuses to touch on the issue of corruption? Ghanaians are worried about the sinking image of the presidency and demands answers to these questions,” he maintained.
Mr. Awuku recalled that in his last article copied to the press on October 8, 2012, Mr. Martin Amidu, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, stated without equivocation, that the late President constituted a committee to investigate then Vice President, John Mahama on the prices the state had to pay for the aircrafts for the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to Mr. Amidu, “it would be recalled that in July 2011 there was a huge cry about the prices for the acquisition of five aircrafts for the Ghana Armed Forces. Even though on 26th July 2011 the late Prof. Mills attempted to defend the purchase of the five aircrafts, he became convinced of the necessity to set up a committee to investigate those purchases.”
Mr. Awuku maintained that these allegations are so grave that any President interested in the sanctity of the Presidency would not turn a blind eye on except indeed the allegations are true.
Speaking to a charged audience, the Deputy Communications Director, charged the party faithfuls to close their ranks and desist from the tendency of voting “skirt and blouse,” stressing that the future government of Nana Akufo-Addo will require competent and experienced hands like Mr. Joe Appiah, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, in championing his vision.
