Chiefs of the Nzema Traditional Area have asked the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to apologise for comments made about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah at his unveiling ceremony in Kumasi on July 9.

Addressing the incident on behalf of the Nzema chiefs, as seen in a video shared on X, Nana Kwasi Kutuah V, rejected the initial apology of NAPO.

The traditional leader said the statement by NAPO was disrespectful and showed his disregard for the people of Nkroful and the Western Region.

According to the chief, the initial apology released in a statement by NAPO isn’t sufficient to be accepted by the traditional leaders of Nkroful.

He, therefore, charged NAPO to come and personally render an apology to appease the people of Nkroful.

“We believe that the statement made by Dr Opoku Prempeh isn’t something to be said. He has disrespected Ghanaians, Nzema, Western Region and the people of Nkroful.

“We have heard he has written a letter to show how remorseful he is, but we want him to personally come to Nzema to render an apology to the chiefs and the family before we accept his apology. If he doesn’t obey this directive, we will never accept his apology,” Nana Kwasi Kutuah stated.

It will be recalled that Dr. Opoku Prempeh, addressing a rally of NPP sympathisers at his unveiling, said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has surpassed all past presidents, including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in terms of development and achievements.

His comments championed calls for his resignation by a section of the public.

However, in a statement to apologise, NAPO said he didn’t mean to denigrate the former president or any other president.

His statement further clarified that his views reflected his own personal opinion about President Akufo-Addo’s impact, relative to other presidents in the country’s history.
