Commission to hold public hearings in Brong-Ahafo

The Commission of Inquiry into the creation of new regions established by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo under Constitutional Instrument (CI) 105 would hold public hearings in the Brong-Ahafo Region from February 6 to 17, 2018.

A press release signed by Mr Jacob Saah, the Secretary to the Commission, and made available to the Ghana News Agency, said at the end of a sensitization workshop for media personnel and other officers on the creation of new regions on Wednesday in Sunyani.

It said public hearings from Tuesday, February 6 to Monday, February 12, 2018, would be restricted to discussions on the petition for the creation of a new region in the Bono East Area, whilst the petition for the creation of a new region in the Ahafo Area would be discussed at the public hearings from February 13 to 17, 2018.

According to the release six venues have been designated on different days for the Bono East hearings namely; Eusbett Hotel Conference Hall, Sunyani, Community Centre at Kajaji in Sene East District, Methodist Church at Yeji in the Pru District, Anglican Church in Atebubu, Atebubu-Amantin District, Municipal Assembly Hall at Nkoranza, Nkoranza South Municipality and the Community Centre in Techiman, Techiman South Municipality.

For the Ahafo public hearings, the earmarked locations on daily basis is the Eusbett Hotel Conference Hall, Sunyani, St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral at Goaso, Asunafo North Municipality, St. Peter’s Catholic Church at Sankore, Asunafo South District, Hwidiem SHS Assembly Hall, Asutifi South District and Bechem Community Centre in the Tano South District, the release added.

The venues, as arranged, would follow the order of the days and dates and commencement is 10:00 hours each day, it explained.

The release said persons who wish to appear before the Commission might do so at the venues indicated above.

Meanwhile, Mr Daniel Kwaku Botwe, the Minister of Regional Re-organisation and Development, through slide presentation, sensitized the participants that included staff of the Information Services Department and the National Commission for Civic Education on the constitutional basis of the creation of the regions.
