Accra, Jan. 6, GNA - Dr Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood of the European Commission, on Tuesday commended Ghanaians for the peaceful elections. "I am pleased to congratulate the people of Ghana for reconfirming their strong commitment to the democratic process in their country," Mr Ferrero-Waldner said in a statement.
She said the efficient and transparent manner in which the elections were conducted was essential to ensure a credible election process.
Dr Ferrero-Waldner called on political parties who might have complaints to submit them through the relevant legal channels. She thanked Nickolay Mladevov, Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission, and his team for the hard work done during the elections.
Mr Louis Michel, Commissioner for Development, also of the European Commission, joined in applauding Ghanaians for peaceful and orderly elections.
"The peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections confirms the strength of democratic system and the resolve of Ghanaians to remain a shinning example of democracy in Africa," he said. He said the Commission would remain engaged with Ghana and continue to support the country's development.
