Sekondi, Aug. 18, GNA - Mr Philip K. Nkrumah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan (SAEM) Chief Executive, on Monday expressed regret that people living the Metropolis continue to dump refuse into gutters and streams.
He said such acts had resulted in choked gutters that provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Mr Nkrumah was speaking at the opening of a community based malaria control programme at the Sekondi Youth Centre on Monday.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is funding it in collaboration with the School of Public Health of the University of Ghana for 120 participants drawn from SAEM Area.
Mr Nkrumah said though the assembly had purchased a refuse collection truck, to facilitate the disposal of refuse, many residents still do not patronise such services.
He, therefore, appealed to all residents within the Metropolis, to patronise the services of the assemblies refuse collection trucks, to reduce mosquito infestation and ensure a clean environment. 18 Aug. 03
