Community improves sanitation

Nkoranza (B/A), June 22, GNA - Residents of Adinkra Akyi Electoral Area in Nkoranza in Brong-Ahafo are constructing a 20-seater water closet KVIP place of convenience to enhance sanitation in the area.

The project, estimated at GHC60, 000 will be funded through special contributions by the people and support from the Government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO).

Mr. Kofi Ohene Sakyi, Assembly Member, who announced this at a meeting with the electorate at the weekend, said about 200 persons in the area had benefited from a credit facility of about GHC60, 000 to improve their economic activities.

The beneficiaries, who belong to 20 well-organised groups, are customers of the Brong-Ahafo Catholic Cooperative Society for Development (BACCSOD), which offered them the support.

The Assembly Member announced that 91Youth In Apprenticeship', an Accra-based NGO, had identified 50 unemployed youth in the area to train them in various vocations and trades.

The NGO will fund the training of the youth and later provide them with working tools on completion of their apprenticeship, he added.

Mr. Sakyi urged the youth to support the unit committee by actively participating in communal labour activities.

Mr. Yaw Baffoe, unit committee chairman, commended the people for attending the meeting to share ideas towards the development of the area and advised them to unite to develop the area.
