Company provides 200 million cedis for school project

Aponapon (Ash), March 1, GNA- Adwumapa Buyers Limited, a private Licensing Buying Company (LBC) has made available 200 million cedis for the construction of a three-classroom block, an office and store for the Aponapon Junior Secondary School in the Amansie West district of Ashanti.

This has come as a big relief to the school as the teachers and pupils for more than a year have been holding classes in the local Methodist chapel and under trees following the total collapse of the classroom block as a result of a severe rainstorm. Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony to mark the formal commencement of work on the project, Mr Kofi Asare, Director of Finance and Administration of the company, said the support was part of their social responsibility.

He said they were not just out there to only make money but also to contribute towards the development of communities within their areas of operation.

Mr Asare said it was for this reason that the company was engaged in the rehabilitation of some feeder roads that were in bad shape in cocoa growing areas, constructing bridges and providing water and other social facilities for people in farming communities.

He asked the chiefs and people to actively support the project with communal labour to enable it to be completed within three months. He said, "we expect you to have a sense of ownership for this project".

Mr Muntaka Mubarak, Head of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of the company gave the assurance that the management would not countenance cheating of farmers by any of its purchasing clerks. Nana Agyei Ababio, chief of the town said the community was grateful to the company for its timely support. 01 March 04
