Local governance expert, Dr. Frederick Oduro, has said Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as NAPO comparing Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and President Akufo-Addo is unnecessary.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Lantam Papanko on Wednesday, July 10, Dr. Oduro stated that he would not encourage him to go on that tangent.
“I believe that as much as you will want to reach out to your base it is also important to be sensitive to the views and aspirations of other people. So, if I were his advisor I wouldn’t encourage him to go on that tangent. Because it is an unnecessary comparison. Because if Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is not on the ticket you are contesting with why make a reference to him?
“I believe it was unnecessary and it is something he should avoid going into the future”. Dr. Oduro stated.
Background
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says President Akufo-Addo has accomplished more during his tenure than any other President in the history of Ghana.
According to him, not even Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has managed the nation better than President Akufo-Addo.
“In telling our history as Ghanaians, if Akufo-Addo retires, I can beat my chest and boldly declare that no president in our history has performed better than Akufo-Addo. From 1957 to date, you can mention Kwame Nkrumah and any other president, none of them have managed Ghana better than Akufo-Addo.
“I say this with pride and with the fact that Akufo-Addo has performed better and surpassed all other presidents in our history. He has performed so well, so we don’t have to allow what occurred in 2008 to repeat itself. Chairman Wontumi said this, and I want to reiterate it. We cannot allow what happened in 2008 to repeat itself,” the outgoing Energy Minister disclosed at the Kumasi Jubilee Park during his unveiling.
He called on the NPP party supporters to work tirelessly for the party to win the impending generation order to protect the legacy of President Akufo-Addo.
“It would be prudent for Akufo-Addo to end his term and hand over the power to Dr. Bawumia. Dr. Bawumia will continue and build on the foundation of Akufo-Addo. If you are a young person, then you should take what I am talking about seriously. Let’s protect the gains made and the legacy of Akufo-Addo,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh stated.
