Complete 'NDC roads' - MP to Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must stop politicising projects in the road sector and complete those started by the previous administration, Amasaman MP Emmanuel Nii Laryea has said.

According to him, governance is a continuous process, therefore, Mr Akufo-Addo should halt the partisanship.

His comments follow a demonstration by residents and drivers at Manhean, a community in the Amasaman constituency, on Monday May 29.

The livid demonstrators indicated they had waited for far too long for the government to complete the projects.

Some of them who spoke to Accra News’ Daniel Bennin said the MP, Mr Laryea, indicated in the NDC’s Green Book ahead of last year’s elections that the roads had been completed.

But speaking on this development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM, the MP denied the allegation.

He said: “There was no mention of this project in the NDC’s Green Book. I remember last year a similar demonstration came up and so money was allocated for it in the 2014 budget. The contract was then awarded to a contractor.

“The contractor started the road from Manhean to Oduman Junction through to Ablekuma and other areas. But the contractor as at last year was owed some money and so he stopped the project. Then-President John Mahama promised to pay but he is out of office now and so what we expect from the current president is that he should continue the project for us. He must work and stop the partisanship he has demonstrated in the road sector.”
