Computer centre for teacher training Colleges

Accra, June 28, GNA - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in collaboration with Senator Hanson Clark of the Michigan State of USA and JKS and Associates of Ghana would from August 2004 begin a programme to set up computer centres in all the 38 Teacher Training Colleges in the country. Five selected Teacher Training Colleges would benefit in the first phase.

This follows a successful fund-raising programme organised recently by the Office of Senator Hanson Clark in the State of Michigan USA at which the Deputy Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Joe Donkor and two top executives of JKS and Associates Ghana participated. The Wayne County Commissioner, Kwame Kenyatta pledged to donate 850 computers to support the programme.

Automation Alley, an umbrella organisation representing about 500 businesses in the Oakland County also promised to donate computers from its interventions.

Senator Hanson Clark's Office is collating other pledges and the outcome would be forwarded to the Ministry while cash receipts would be used towards the shipment of the donated computers.

JKS and Associates Ghana is also tasked to follow up the pledges of the computers and also to act on behalf of the Ministry to solicit similar support from corporate bodies in Ghana towards the establishment of the Computer Centres in all the 38 Teacher Training Colleges. 28 June 04
