Concern over the advertisement of "Koti Aduro"

Cape Coast, Feb 28, GNA - Mr Mustapha Logoh, a circuit court judge at Cape Coast, on Tuesday said the advertisement of "sex performance enhancing drugs and drinks" largely by FM stations should be stopped.

''The public is being suffocated by such advertisements.''

''Some adventurous young men try these drinks and when their 'rocks become hard' it is young innocent girls who fall victim to their "adventures."

He said most of the young girls who fall victim to defilement and rape remain mentally, physically and emotionally traumatized for life and everything must be done to discourage rape and defilement. Mr Logoh expressed these concerns when five young men from Assin Fosu and its surrounding communities were brought before him on charges of defilement.

They are Kofi Gurah 28, carpenter, Yaw Asare 30, farmer, Kwabena Owusu 23, unemployed, Kwabena Mensah 25, and Kwabena Nurideen 27 also unemployed.

They all pleaded not guilty and were remanded until March 07. Assistant Superintendent of Police Akwasi Asafo-Agyei, prosecuting told the court that in the afternoon of February 15, Gurah lured his six-year old victim into a room, inserted his fingers in her vagina and later defiled her.

He said the girl's mother detected a change in her walking, examined her pants and saw blood in it. When she questioned her she mentioned Gurah as the one who defiled and warned her to keep mute. Asare on December 21 last year sent his 11-year-old victim to buy him some fish and later followed her into the bush and defiled her. She informed her grandmother who also told the chief and elders of the town. Asare was summoned to the chief's palace where he admitted the offence and pleaded for leniency. He was asked to perform some purification rites and after doing it the chief reported the matter to the police.

The prosecutor said in Owusu's case, he trailed his victim in the evening of May 13 last year until they reached an isolated place near a cluster of schools at Assin Fosu and dragged her into one of the classrooms.

He threatened her with a knife, forcibly had sex with her and bolted from the town.

He was arrested when he resurfaced sometime in August last year. Mensah defiled his 12-year-old victim in August last year while Nurideen capitalized on the absence of his 13-year-old victim's mother, gagged and defiled her. 28 Feb 06
