The General Secretary of the Public Utilities Workers Union, Timothy Nyame, has expressed concerns about the potential privatization of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), citing potential political interference.

Speaking to Kasapa FM, he stated that the government should be cautious in handing over the ECG to private investors, emphasizing that some of these investors might not have good intentions.

"Private investors are approaching him, and some of them have their personal interests in the matters of ECG. He should be vigilant about these people because they may not have good intentions," he stated.

He added that the Public Utilities Workers Union is not against President Mahama's idea of privatizing ECG but wants him to carefully select the people he brings into the power sector.

"We are not saying we won’t allow it, but we want him to be vigilant. He can involve stakeholders in the power sector so that the work will be done well for the people of Ghana."
