Confusion At Buduburam Over Weah's Quest For Presidency

The Pronouncement by former Liberia Soccer Legend George Weah to contest the 2005 Presidential race in Liberia has created mix-feelings amongst Liberians at the Buduburam Refugees Camp in Ghana.

This new wave of political decision has taken hundreds of Liberian refugees aback and has stirred the emotions of many others who at some street corners were hauling insults at one another in defense and against the Soccer Legend decision.

Patrick Mombo Thomas, the Current Football Association Boss of Buduburam, gave his views on the matter: "I think Weah's decision is right. Over the years, our so-called politicians have failed us, and I am convinced that George Weah has Liberia at heart, sincerely. We are tired with the people who call themselves educated and don't mean nothing.

Another frantic lady who chose to remain anonymous said, "a few years back George Weah came to Ghana, and denounced his nationality. How can such a man ever lead Liberia if he does not feel a part of us? In fact, he's always here and there with different girls in night clubs when he comes to Ghana".

Still many opinion leaders, including some clergy, believe that the country is at a crucial point and would require a person with distinct character and political insight and the will power to radically change corrupt practices and create a spirit of oneness and nationalism to move Liberia forward.

George Manneh Weah who is the newest aspirant for the presidency in the Liberia political circle, took a decision that appears to be hasty and highly influenced by politicians who themselves have failed in the past and some whose greed for power can be over emphasized.

The popular soccer legend's life style does not portray that of a person who desires or deserves the highest office of the land where vital decisions are made that influence the lives of more than three million poverty stricken people evolving from a chaotic civil conflict in total despondency.

In fact, his former proclamation as a Muslim when he played for AS Monaco in France may serve as a stumbling block to his ascendancy to the presidency.

Nonetheless, it is every Liberian's right, once he or she has met the prerequisite enshrined the constitution of the Republic of Liberia to vie for public office.

The Soccer Legend was hailed in 1995 as the World, African, and European player of the year at one swift blow, thus registering Liberia as one of the football nations on the globe.

George Weah stands as the Standard Bearer of the Liberia National Congress Party (LNPC.
