Lawyer for the embattled CEO of gold trading company, Menzgold are appealing to the government of Ghana to call for the release of their client, Nana Appiah Mensah.

According to Kwame Boafo Akuffo, the continuous detention of NAM1 in Dubai is an infringement on his fundamental human rights since he has no criminal records in the United Arab Emirates.

In a letter to the Attorney General, Chief of Staff, Finance Minister and other top government officials, the lawyer noted that during a meeting with the prosecutor of Interpol in May 2019, Nana Appiah Mensah was told he can only be released if the government of Ghana revoked the red notice against him.

“If this is not done, he shall continue to be held in custody until all the appeal and Supreme Court processes are fully completed, which may take several months, at which time Mr Mensah would be fee to leave the UAE via a Red Notice (direct extradition) to Ghana…,” the letter read.

It adds that his extradition will not allow NAM1 recover the $39,000,000 “owed him and Menzgold Ghana”.

The lawyer is however pleading with the government to allow Mr Mensah actively pursue Horizon Royal Diamond for the money owed Menzgold Ghana so he, in turn, can repay all Menzgold customers.

The letter also mentions that the health of Nana Appiah Mensah, who is still recovering from bilateral girdle stone surgical procedure, is deteriorating under the prolonged detention.
