Contribute to the upkeep of your children, women urged

Mrs Esther Hamilton, Director of the Light of the World School Complex at New Aplaku in Ga West Municipality, has appealed to Ghanaian women to contribute towards the upkeep of their children.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the school to mark this year’s Mother’s Day, Mrs Hamilton said children were gifts from God and must not left to their fate by their mothers to run about the street and market places.

She said motherhood was a difficult task and appealed to women to be fully prepared by studying their partners whiles in courtship before taking the leap into marriage such that the children do not become a burden on the mother alone.

She expressed concern about the behaviour of some women who carried the pregnancy for nine months to bring forth only to throw the babies away because of economic hardship.

“That is a wicked thing a woman can do””, she said.

Mrs Hamilton cautioned teenagers against indulging in sex if they are not ready for motherhood.

“Don't bring children in the world for them to come and suffer for God would demand an account of their care”, she said.

Mrs Hamilton appealed to children to reciprocate the care their mothers took of them by supporting them especially by the time of their old age.

She cautioned them against following fake prophets to believe that their mothers were witches or devils who were retarding their progress in life.

“You bring curse to yourselves if you do that,” she said.

Mrs Hamilton appealed to mothers not to consider their biological off-spring as their only children but must extend their motherhood to children who were in-need and especially those who have lost their mothers.
