Convert all Senior High Boarding Schools to Day - Educationist

Winneba, Sept. 22, GNA - Madam Margaret Krishna, an educationist, has suggested that all public boarding schools be converted into day Senior High/ Technical Schools.

This would solve the problem of thousands of Junior High School students dropping out every year due to poor grades at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Mad. Krishna was contributing to a special morning show programme dubbed 'anopa shyewbo' introduced by Radio Peace, a community Radio Station at Winneba.

She said when the various public boarding schools are converted into day senior high/technical schools, more children would get access to secondary and technical education thereby making them productive and self reliant.

Mad. Krishna said the time has come for the nation to take a serious and more critical look at the current educational system, especially the boarding senior high school policy and find a way of scrapping it, because it is throwing away millions of useful talents who otherwise could be utilized to enhance national development. She said that the current system had for many years favoured the rich people in society who can afford to bulldoze their way through to obtain admission for their children in state-owned senior high schools to the detriment of the poor and vulnerable, regardless of how brilliant a child of the poor man might be.
