Kumasi, July 30, GNA - Cooks from 87 second cycle schools in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday attended a day's workshop aimed at educating them to sustain healthy environmental sanitation and personal hygiene at their work places. About 200 participants attended the workshop, organised by the Ashanti Regional Cooks Association in collaboration with the Regional Education Directorate in Kumasi. It was on the theme: "The Role of a cook, enhancing kitchen and personal hygiene".
Addressing the participants, Mr. Joseph K. Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education stated that cooks had crucial roles to ensure stability, peace and conducive atmosphere in the various schools. He observed that many cases of students unrests were usually attributed to the quality and quantity of meals served in schools and advised them to live up to their roles and responsibilities. Mr. Onyinah charged the cooks to periodically go for medical check-up, so that meals prepared and served for students were healthy. Mrs. Diana Ampeh, Ashanti Regional President of the Matrons Association, advised the cooks to work in close harmony with the matrons to ensure that quality and balanced diet were served for students. Miss Victoria Boatemaa, President of the cooks Association appealed to the Ghana Education Service to provide them with relevant safety gear to enable them perform satisfactorily.
