A police officer with the Assin Fosu Division in the Central region Sgt. Augustine Owusu Ansah has been interdicted by the service for allegedly engaging in acts of extortion.

Sgt. Owusu Ansah two months ago went viral in a leaked video in which he was seen extorting monies from some persons at a restaurant at Assin Fosu with the promise of helping them to perpetuate illegal acts including transporting timber from the district against the laid down procedures of the service.

In the said video, he was heard boasting that he had helped a lot of deviants to escape especially if the law breakers complied with his demands.

He stressed in the said video that it is only those who prove stubborn thereby not fulfilling his demands who end up getting prosecuted for their dubious acts.

The police service on his arrest forwarded the docket to the Attorney General’s office for advice and the AG has established a prima facie case of Extortion against him per section 151(1) of the Criminal Offenses Act 29/60 and directed his prosecution.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Owusu Ansah with service number 45533 G/SGT is also facing a service enquiry being conducted by the police administration.
