The Chief and people of Brafoyaw in the Central region have blocked the main entrance of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School to prevent any attempt by authorities to use the school as a quarantine center for COVID-19.

The Chief and some youth of Brafoyaw numbering about a hundred Saturday morning blocked the entrance and vowed to resist any attempt to use the school as a quarantine center.

According to the Chief of Brafoyaw, no school has been used as a quarantine center in the country and so, he does not see the need for authorities to start so in the central region.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM on Saturday, 11 April 2020, the chief said the teachers and their families who live on the school campus will be at risk if the school is allowed to be used as a quarantine center.

He further said the people of Brofoyaw will also be at risk if any person from Aggrey tests positive and travels to his town with the virus.

He is, therefore, calling on authorities to use the Cape Coast sports stadium as the quarantine center rather the school.

“Why are they bringing people to be quarantined here in Aggrey? If any of them test positive we the people of Brafoyaw are not safe. They should take them to the Cape Coast stadium, besides, the teachers and their families who live in this school will also be at risk,” he stated.

So far, Ghana has recorded 378 COVID-19 cases with six deaths and four recoveries.
