The Ghana Freedom Party has suspended it’s maiden National Congress slated for April.

The decision, comes on the back of the government’s directive to suspend all public gatherings for the next four weeks as part of measures to check the spread of the covid-19 virus in the country.

A statement by the party said the new date will be communicated to party faithfuls and the general public in due time.

The decision comes after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced enhanced measures, including a ban on public gatherings and school closure from Monday to contain and combat the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The public gatherings include conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, sporting events, and religious events such as services in churches and mosques.

Akufo-Addo said, "Let us all put our shoulders to the wheel, and I am confident that together we shall overcome this challenge."
