Health workers at the Afrikids Medical Centre in Bolgatanga took to caution and virtually failed to attend to a patient who visited the facility with a suspected case of COVID-19 due to lack of Personal Protective Equipments.

Manager of the facility Godfred Njindan told journalists the female patient reported to the facility at midday on Sunday. He said “the signs she presented were cough, sneezing and some high temperature. So based on that the health caregivers decided to quarantine her.”

According to him, the middle-aged patient has travel history of having travelled to Burkina Faso. The disease surveillance team was called in and samples of the patient have since been taken for testing.

He disclosed that fear gripped the health staff because they do not have PPE’s and efforts to get some proved futile as only a limited number were received by the region.
