The Suhum Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Amanda Okyere Kwatia has commended former President John Dramani Mahama for showing leadership in the wake of the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country.

Ghana has so far recorded nine cases of COVID-19.

Mr Mahama has asked all Ghanaians irrespective of their political affiliation to rally behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to deal with the outbreak which has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation.

Mahama, who is also the flagbearer of the NDC ahead of this year’s elections has expressed his commitment towards helping the government's fight against the deadly coronavirus.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra100.5FM on Wednesday 18 March 2020, Ms Kwatia said: “This is the mark of a true leader. Mr Mahama has shown leadership in this matter.”

She added: “If it had been the NDC in power during this time, our friends in the NPP would not have done same, because we know how they do their things.”

Regarding the recent trip President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo embarked to Norway, she said: “The NPP would have told former President John Mahama to have gone for medical test if this had happened under the NDC. President Nana Akufo-Addo and the other government officials who travelled to Norway should have gone for test after their trip.”
