The Ghana Prisons Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health has released a statement about additional steps being taken to contain the spread of coronavirus in our prisons.

Public Relations Officer, Supt. Courage Atsem made it clear to Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm that as the novel coronavirus continues to spread across the country, the prison system in Ghana has begun new screening protocols for new admissions.

The new protocols he explained include prisoners and all persons who enter their facilities.

He said they have also made the provision of sanitizers and running water for use at the gate and vantage points inside prisons, wearing of face mask by prison staff and visitors, quarantining and referral of suspected cases to appropriate health facilities among others.

The Ghana Prisons Service remains committed to ensuring family and friends can visit loved ones, with as limited disruption to the normal visiting process as possible, while also actively working to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the country, he ended.
