The retesting of samples collected for coronavirus does not affect the data being reported by the Ghana Health Service(GHS), Prof. William Ampofo, Head of the Virology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research has explained.

Reacting to the controversies on sample collection, Prof. William Ampofo said they have a separate database for those who have been retested, and hence cumulative results presented to GHS exclude those who have been retested.

“So what you get from the GHS is the individual; that particular person’s results, but for medical science we don’t put a name to a result…But these are test results of individuals and not just samples” Prof. William Ampofo told a Press conference organized by the ministry of information.

Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research has processed 76,921 samples, with 70,921 tests done and a backlog of about 6000, likely to be cleared by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, KCCR as at yesterday, had processed 35,218 samples with 15,180 samples tested.
