The Director of Noguchi Memorial Institute (NMI), Prof Abraham Kwabena Annan, has revealed that his outfit has taken samples of 130,000 people in the country with regards to the coronavirus epidemic.

He disclosed that the government took these enhanced testing measures as a follow-up on contact tracing of people who have tested positive for the virus in Ghana.

"Noguchi has been able to test over 130,000 samples so far with regards to COVID-19 so I am urging all Ghanaians to adhere to the precautionary protocols to avoid the spread of the virus. We’ve been able to do this because we have mobilized. This Institute has resources in terms of human capacity, scientific capacity and infrastructural capacity,”

Prof Abraham Kwabena Annan told Kwame Tutu on ‘Anopa Nkomo’ on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7

He noted that the research institute has collaborated with other centers to mount other testing centers to help facilitate the process of the sample test, adding that with the growing number of COVID-19 cases, it was prudent to increase the testing centers.

Prof. Abraham Annan says that even though the country was doing okay with regards to testing samples, more laboratories must be established to help increase the nation’s testing capacity.
