Regional Director of Health Services for the Upper East Region Dr. Winfred Ofosu has warned against assumptions that only persons who show symptoms of COVID-19 are the only ones carrying the virus.
According to him, about 80 percent of persons carrying the Coronavirus do not show severe signs and symptoms but can transmit the virus.
This he noted, underscores the need for strict adherence to social distance and the other safety protocols recommended by health experts to guard against the spread of the virus.
“A chunk of the people, about 80 percent have mild infections,” he said at a press briefing in Bolgatanga covered by MyNewsGh.com
Dr. Ofosu argued that the most dangerous group of people are those who have not been confirmed and confined but rather those who are asymptomatic and going about engaging in their normal daily activities.
“People who think that it is the woman who has been diagnosed who is spreading the disease, should not delude themselves. From the evidence, we have gathering it is likely the virus is already circulating around here. So we should educate people to observe social distance and all the things we are talking about. That is the only saviour. The one who has been confirmed is harmless. Those that are harbouring the virus and we don’t know are the dangerous ones,” Dr Ofosu added.
The Upper East Region has tested 28 suspected persons with one testing positive for the coronavirus.
