Nana Kwabena Gyamfi Akwabeng I, Abontendomhen of the Anhwiaso Traditional Council in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency of the Western North Region, has advised Ghanaians not to take the COVID- 19 pandemic for granted because it is real.

He said even though it was difficult to identify who had the virus or not, the fact still remained that the disease was here with us and people must seriously protect themselves and others against contracting and spreading it.

Nana Gyamfi Akwabeng I, known in private life as Ex. Staff Sgt. T. B. K. Osei, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Subri-Nkwanta in the Bibiani–Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Area.

He said "the disease knows no human barrier- whether kings or subjects, rich or poor, educated or non-educated, powerful or less powerful, we should therefore, try our very best to observe and obey all the preventive protocols outlined by the appropriate authorities, for our own safety and wellbeing".

The chief used the opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians, especially the wealthy in society, individuals and corporate bodies, to contribute generously and massively in kind and cash to the COVID-19 Trust Fund to enable the government mitigate the effects of the pandemic on the nation’s economy and the citizenry.

He said it was in view of this, that the Anhwiaso Traditional Council led by its President, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, who doubles as the President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, donated PPE worth GH 40,000.00 plus cash of GH¢20,000.00 to the Bibiani- Anhwiaso-Bekwai Health Directorate to boost its efforts at combating the disease in the area and beyond.

“Ghana is a blessed nation, but our disobedience almost always plunged us into all manner of troubles. Let’s fear God and respect authorities, while people in authority should also serve with all faithfulness for the good of the nation and its people,” he admonished.
