Private legal practitioner and leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Otchere-Darko is the latest to have offered an ‘advise’ to the Nana Addo led government on ways to achieve the Ghana beyond aid agenda.
According to him, Ghana can achieve the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda when corruption is purged and enough revenue realised in the process.
“Taking Ghana or Africa beyond aid requires at least three key achievables; Raising sufficient revenues domestically, using the revenues raised efficiently which includes tackling corruption and transforming the economy to one built on a steep culture of value addition,” he said in a post on Facebook.
Citing Danida, Mr. Otchere-Darko highlighted the need for international donor partners to pay key attention to the attainment of these three goals he iterates.
“Denmark, through Danida, is one of the world’s top providers of foreign aid, consistently meeting or exceeding the UN’s target of 0.7% of Gross National Income. What Denmark ought to be doing, however, is not to worry that it would be empty when we move beyond aid, but rather to focus on how it can structure its own aid philosophy to help aid-dependent nations meet the above three goals”
”There will still be more work for its taxpayers’ benevolence, even in a more impactful way than the tradition of throwing good money onto Savannahs of poverty,” he opined.
