Kojo Monney, a communicator of the New Patriotic Party, has boldly asserted that the current government’s efforts at fighting corruption have led to a significant reduction in such matters.

Speaking on UTV’s Adekye Nsromma on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, Monney said the approaches laid down by the government to help combat the canker have yielded results, gradually eliminating such cases.

Monney highlighted several of the government’s approaches, noting that the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor to probe corruption and its related offences within the political class demonstrates the government’s commitment to tackling these issues.

“One other commendable implementation by Akufo-Addo is the Office of the Special Prosecutor to come and fight corruption and corruption-related offences among the political class, that is what the NPP have been able to do,” he said.

According to him, initiatives like the digitalisation drive have eliminated the need for middlemen who charge exorbitant prices at passport offices.

“Corruption and bribery issues always arise whenever there are human to human interactions. And to be able to do away with the human-to-human interactions, we have embarked on the digitalisation drive. Most at times, passport offices are flagged as one of the hotspots for corruption related issues when corruption indexes are conducted. But due to our digitalisation drive, where people can easily apply for a passport through the Ghana.gov platform, there is no longer the existence of goro boys (middle men) which has drastically reduced corruption at those centers.

“Also, the paperless system has eliminated the human-to-human interactions at the ports, reducing corruption. That is what the NPP is doing and that is what we intend to do more to make sure the digitalisation will eliminate human to human interactions at all level of government agencies so corruption reduces,” he said.
