Renowned cardio surgeon Professor Frimpong Boateng has said the country faces an imminent disaster, owing to the inability of leaders to meet the dreams of the nation’s teeming youth.
According to Professor Boateng, wanton corruption and the lack of a national plan that meets future aspirations have left young people frustrated.
Speaking to Class News on the margins of the fourth annual Oil and Gas International Conference in Koforidua, Professor Boateng said the youth could not afford to postpone their dreams, adding that if strategic steps were not taken to address these shortfalls, disaster would befall the country.
“We [need to] set a national development agenda, so we know where we are going [in] almost every field of endeavour and then with that, we can plan where we are going and know the actors that will help us get there,” he stated.
“Let us get a road map and then we can chart a clear path so that if somebody is studying something in the university, you know that there’s the national plan and what I am doing will feed into that national plan that will give our people confidence to learn what they are learning because they are not at peace and people who are not at peace cannot learn and [you cannot] get the best out of them.
“…[If] people are hungry and they don’t seem to have any future, and they see one per cent of people living in affluence and affording everything for doing very little, then it’s a problem. And when they see the obvious corruption that is around, then it’s a recipe for disaster.”
