Tamale, Dec. 23, GNA - The National Cotton Farmers Association of Ghana has congratulated President John Agyekum Kufuor for his re-election for a second four-year term in office.
The Association also congratulated all the other contesting parties and their presidential candidates for ensuring a peaceful election and accepting defeat in good faith.
In a congratulatory message signed by Osofo Patrick Apullah, National Vice Chairman, the Association called on President Kufuor and all the other presidential candidates of the various political parties and their supporters to continue to give peace a chance at all levels of our national endeavours.
The statement appealed to President Kufuor to put into practice a democracy that would let Ghanaians to see themselves as one people, one nation with a common goal.
The Association urged the government and Ghanaians to translate the political maturity that they had exhibited in the December polls into our daily activities eschewing corruption and nepotism in the society.
It called on govt appointees and public officers to live above reproach and let their performance reflect in the lives of the people, especially farmers who contribute to sustain the national economy. The Association urged the govt to overhaul the agricultural sector, which had been the mainstay of the economy.
The statement urged the government to give due attention to the production of crops such as sheanuts, cotton, sorghum, soybean and groundnut that had comparative advantage at the world market to generate income to support the economy.
