Council chairman commends Assembly members

Yefri (B/A) July 4, GNA - Mr. Michael Obour, Chairman of Yefri Area Council in Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo has commended Members of the District Assembly for confirming the nomination of Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah as Chief Executive. Addressing members of the Council at a meeting at Yefri, he said the appointment of the Chief Executive would enable the Assembly to function effectively and initiate development programmes. The Council Chairman asked the Assembly Members to remain united and cooperate and not to allow partisan politics to divide them, since that would adversely affect the development process. He reminded that they represented the people and should therefore not place their personal and individual interests above the development of their communities.

Mr. Obour called on the people of Nkoranza to bury their political differences and forge ahead in unity and support the two Members of Parliament, District Chief Executive and the traditional authorities for the accelerated development of the area.

"Assembly members, unit committees and traditional authorities should also listen and respect the views of their people to win their support", he added.

Mr. Anthony Collins Addae, Area Council Secretary, urged the Council members to regularly meet their people to decide on development programmes.

He announced that communities in the district had been mandated to decide on projects under the community based rural development, which is aimed at helping to improve the lives of people in rural areas.

The Council secretary explained that under the programme, feeder roads would be constructed to reach farming settlements, while school blocks would be rehabilitated.

Mr. Addae said irrigation projects would be established in communities with large water bodies to boost agricultural activities to enable the youth to engage in economic activities. July 04 05
