The Council of State elections, which was scheduled to come off next week February 9, has been put on hold pending the formation of a new electoral college.
This follows the revocation of appointments of the 30 per cent of members who make up the various assemblies who were appointed by the previous administration. Currently, two members of each district assembly make up the Electoral College.
At the close of nominations, 19 persons have submitted forms to contest for the Greater Accra regional slot on the council. In all, 90 nominations have been received for the nationwide elections.
Confirming the news to Class 91.3FM’s Emefa Apawu on the 505 programme on Friday February 3, Mr Desmond Decker, one of the aspirants in the Greater Accra Region, said: “I was called around 4 o’clock by the Electoral Commission PRO at the regional level [who] told me that the election was currently on hold.
“I asked for timelines as to when we [could] have this election but Mr Kwame Amoah at the regional secretariat told me that he [couldn’t] give a timeline as to when the elections would come off.”
