Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, has castigated persons making mockery of an announcement by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah about some attempts by a group to destabilize the Presidency.

According to him, the reasoning behind their mockery is unjustified, seeing that it takes a well-planned and consented effort to plan mayhem, rather than just heavy arms and weapons.

“I believe people trivialising the issue perhaps did not understand what a threat to security is. They do not understand the implication of what was sent out to the public by the honorable minister for information.
People are even brandishing on social media a knife and pistols and other things, saying that they cannot even kill squirrels. Thereby trivializing the whole matter.”

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Monday, revealed how state agencies detected and foiled the planned attack leading to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunitions from Alajo and Bawaleshie in Accra and Dodowa respectively.

A presser released explained that surveillance on the activities of the persons involved commenced in June 2018 when Dr. Mac-Palm and Ofosu started organising a series of meetings at the Next Door Beach Resort, Teshie, and other locations in Accra, in furtherance of their objectives.

Many chastised government following the announcement, mostly describing it as a joke and exaggerative. Some social media users actually created a challenge where some domestic tools including catapults and kitchen knives were displayed with funny captions.

Touching on the issue on Saturday’s Newsfile on JoyNews, Mr. Kpemka likened the situation to the September 11, 2001 Disaster in America, where Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked some four passenger airliners and crashed some of them into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center complex.

“I asked this question sometime back and I want to ask, the September 11 attack, were they sophisticated weapons that were used? Were they grenades and launchers? Yet, in my estimation, it shook the foundation of America’s democracy.

It took a lot but from all the investigations that were conducted and the reports that were issued, nowhere did they indicate that on board those planes were bombs, sophisticated weapons or whatever. At least what I heard or read was that some of the planes were hijacked with knives? Some of those planes and they run them into those buildings. You see, it was a period of thinking on the part of those who caused the mayhem.” He said.

He defended Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, noting that the announcement was necessitated by findings after series of investigations.

“If he put some weapons on display n based on that you come to a conclusion that it was an exaggeration”.

“It was a whole network of persons acting in consent and that’s why paramount among the charges is the charge of conspiracy. Preliminarily because a number of people were conspiring and planning together to destabilize the state.

The mind of man you cannot know but from the conduct of man, you can deduce that based on what he is doing, he is going to do A or B,” he added.
