A couple, Mr Iddrisu Ali, 40 and his wife, Madam Ekima Yakubu, 27, have been placed in prison custody for allegedly kidnapping a 40 year old mother, Madam Fatima Mohammed at Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
The two suspects who live in the same community with the victim, lured her into their house on the pretense of making her a witness to the payment of a house they were about to buy.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Honu- Broni in charge of the Bawku West District Police Command, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Zebilla, said on November 9 this year, at about 2145 hours, the couple took unlawful custody of Madam Mohammed into their house and tied her up before forcing her to send a message to her husband for a ransom before she would be released.
ASP Broni said at midnight Ali called his wife to untie the victim to enable her urinate, which she obliged, but forgot to tie up the victim which enabled her to escape.
He said the victim in the company of her husband made a complaint to the police and an arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of the suspects.
ASP Broni said the two suspects, who appeared before the Bawku West District Magistrate Court, would reappear on November 30.
He described the incident as first of its kind in the Region and warned people with similar intentions to desist from it as the law would not spare them.
